Tuesday 17th April

It’s Wednesday 18th April today and last night was the first time I’ve been back in circle for 3 weeks. I wasn’t disappointed.

Brian, who has previously been sitting with the Friday group but who as shown that he is made of the right stuff for physical mediumship, joined the Tuesday group for the first time last night.

Once we were in the sanctuary, he was secured in the cabinet and I checked his straps personally so I can guarantee there was no room for any shenanigans. In particular (having heard that he had lost a shoe on the last two occasions in the chair) I made doubly sure his legs were locked together as tight as was reasonable -without causing too much discomfort.

We each wore a little badge with a small fluorescent tab on our sleeves so that any untoward movements could be easily noticed by the others. Not because we don’t trust each other, but at some point in the future we hope to invite guests into the sanctuary to witness what’s going on for themselves. (…we already have a small waiting list!) and having these precautions in place from the start should remove any unnecessary doubts or thoughts of fraud.

I was sitting right next to the cabinet in my usual spot and was surprised to hear a lot of creaking sounds and bumps and knocks coming from behind the curtain within the first 10 minutes or so.
At one stage these seemed to becoming quite ‘energetic’. Being so close to the sounds was both exciting and unnerving. Having sat in that chair myself on a few occasions, I knew that the sounds I was hearing were not 'natural' sounds. You couldn't make the chair sound like that if you wanted to ...and we have tried!

Then without warning there was a very loud double thud and a bang as the trumpet (a 24 inch long cone made of aluminium) was violently knocked to the floor under the table.
I jumped more than most, because I had been looking at the two luminous tabs just at that moment, trying to decide if it was just my imagination or if the thing really did seem to be moving.
Plus the thing was only 10” away from my right foot!

Things were calmer for a while after that and later we decided that perhaps a round of “10 Green Bottles” might boost the energy in the room. Just as we finished the last green bottle, a voice very quietly greeted us from behind the curtain.
This was the spirit that communicates through Brian in trance who we know as 'the chief'. He went on to ask us to ask Brian (who he rather un-endearingly referred to as “this one”) to please remove is shoes before the sitting in future, as they were having to work hard to remove them themselves in order to ‘ground’ the energy in the cabinet.
I asked if it would help if we all removed our shoes as well, and at first he seemed to be saying that it was not necessary, but then decided that it ‘might’ help and it would be a good idea for the future.

So next week, Brian and the circle will all be sitting without the aid of footwear –must remember to buy some fresh socks in time for our next meeting!!

There was much more creaking and groaning in the room and both Paul and myself saw a sudden flash of light appear at one point. However, Justin, Christine and David didn’t see it so it wasn’t recorded as an objectively witnessed event in the journal. The journal is the formal public record of any objective phenomena that is witnessed in the sanctuary during a sitting.
My notes here are merely my own subjective account

When the lights eventually came back up, both Brian’s shoes were lying on the floor next to the upturned trumpet. They must have both been thrown out simultaneously to create the double thuds we heard and must’ve hit the trumpet, causing it to be knocked for six and for me to very nearly embarrass myself I my underwear!

On Friday week, Brian will be sitting again for physical development. This Friday and next Tuesday will be given over to Trance development. This will allow Brian to sit once a week for his own development and also allow a circle to meet once a week for Energy/Trance mediumship work.

The fun continues …and it sure as hell beats watching Coronation Street on the telly!

Friday 13th April

I've yet to sit with Brian in circle myself -although I look forward to next week when he'll be joining the Tuesday group.
So the following report is again second hand but as it was quite eventful, I thought I'd include it anyway.

I've cut and pasted this from the Friday circle's report.


Sitters and witnesses: Christine, Helen, Dave and David. Sitters all wearing small glo-tabs so that any movement can be detected. This is not from mistrust of our sitters, but to help us confirm to sceptics that all phenomena is genuine.


The first sounds from the cabinet were of Brian coughing (heavily). Then about a third of the way through the seance, to the background music of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' we all heard sounds indicative of attempted contact from a spirit communicator.
Further communication was made a little later on.

Note that this is Brian's second sitting within the cabinet and independent voice has not yet been achieved. Spirit has told us that his diaphragm is being worked with to aid his breathing during deeper trance. Also his voice box is being manipulated.

During the seance sounds similar to footsteps were heard, this included a series of small running steps. Other sounds were also heard....like coin spinning or a zipper sound.


When the light was switched on at the end of the seance Brian's trainer was outside the cabinet and his ankle restraining strap was removed. He was sitting on his left leg. This wouldn't be an easy movement to make, with his waist and arms firmly strapped to the chair. Brian isn't the athletic type!

Tuesday 10th April

Again, nothing much to report this week.

Justin tried out sitting in the cabinet but after 10 minutes, asked to be ‘let out’. I don’t know, some people just don’t seem to enjoy being trussed up like a chicken and shut in a cupboard in the pitch black for an hour or so…
So once Justin was back to his normal self again, David sat in the cabinet for an hour. There was some cold draughts, Justin felt he could sense perfume moving from one side of him to the next, though no one else was aware of this.
There were the usual foggy hazy patches from time to time but this was all for the evening.

Through trance communication we have been told that this is to be expected for some time yet as the energies are balanced and built up.

Next week we are going to do some experiments with trance and see if perhaps some one other than David is suited for this form of mediumship. We’ve been told through the Friday circle communicators that we are to start to mix the two groups together and work with both trance and physical and ‘universal’ energies over the coming months.

Friday 6th April

My apologies for being late with the updates recently.
I’ve actually had to miss the last 2 weeks due to work commitments (and will miss next weeks as well –Easter Holidays with the family).

However, the last few weeks have been a bit up and down. The amazing progress made by Brian that came quite out of the blue was quite a surprise and we are looking forward to what may come through him.

The Tuesday circle (which I sit in) seems to be moving more towards using the natural ‘universal’ energy rather than ectoplasm via a physical medium. But time will tell.
The biggest recent change is that we’ve decided to blend the two groups (the Friday circle and the Tuesday circle) together.

So now each week, we will be alternating the groups between Trance and Physical and following which ever path we are guided to.

A short update on Friday’s Trance sitting: 2 main communicators came through and voiced their thoughts as to the sorry state of the natural world. Apparently it wasn’t a very inspiring talk. When I get he full transcript I’ll post it here.

It’s all good fun though, keep watching this space.
